Black Hide Share Plates
What are Share plates?
Share plates is the informal name for a manner of dining that became popular in Western food service after 2000. It may either refer to small dishes resembling appetizers which are ordered à la carte and often shared (such as tapas), or to the small courses served as part of a more formal meal.
Some types of small plates which have influenced the modern Western concept are:
• Tapas, a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine
• Mezze, a wide variety of appetizers in Turkish cuisine, and sometimes in Greek cuisine
• Antipasti, a wide variety of appetizers in Italian cuisine
• The small and usually shared dishes served at an izakaya, a Japanese pub

No matter the format, or what you choose to call them, share plates are a burgeoning food trend all over the world, and Brisbane is no exception.
These “little dishes” can be ordered as appetiser, an entree, or combined as a full meal. They can be ordered individually or as a group, and this versatility has aided in their evolution into a popular social ritual.
Why we love it!
At Black Hide, we love share plates. Why? Because the options are endless. Order one or two dishes as an entree or appetiser, or order a wide selection of dishes and combine to make a full meal. Order to have individually or to share between two or between many.
The serving of share plates is designed to encourage conversation, because people are not so focused upon eating an entire meal that is set before them. So it’s the ideal way to dine when in a group situation. Ordering family or banquet style, allows the sharing of dishes among all members of the dining party, perfect for groups and functions. And because of the small portions, diners can try a wide variety of food.
Group Executive Chef Sunil Savur and his team are dedicated to serving the most sensational share plates.
